Phoebe D’Souza - Artist
Phoebe D’Souza is a multidisciplinary artist originally from Perth, Australia, whose vibrant abstract works explore the dynamic interplay of colour, texture, and form. Her practice spans painting, print media, drawing, material exploration, and small-scale sculpture, focusing on geometric abstraction and more fluid, organic compositions.
Her creative journey is grounded in a lifelong engagement with art and design. Phoebe began her formal studies in Fine Art at The Claremont School of Art before expanding her interests into Interior Design and Interior Architecture at the W.A. School of Art and Design and Curtin University. This foundational training continues to inform her sensitivity to space, structure, and materiality.
International travel has played a significant role in shaping her artistic perspective. Years spent living and working abroad offered Phoebe rich opportunities to engage with diverse artistic traditions and visit galleries both grand and obscure—experiences that deepened her understanding of visual language and cultural expression.
Returning to Perth after raising four daughters, Phoebe renewed her commitment to her practice by completing a Bachelor of Fine Art at Curtin University. This marked a pivotal moment in her creative evolution, allowing her to re-engage with the art world on her terms.
Her recent work centres on the principles of colour theory and visual contrast. She finds particular joy in exploring how colours interact—how they vibrate, clash, or harmonise—resulting in pieces that are both intellectually engaging and emotionally resonant. Alongside her structured geometric work, Phoebe also embraces a more intuitive, organic approach, allowing gesture and movement to lead the way.
Now based in Saskatoon, Canada, Phoebe continues to draw inspiration from her surroundings. The expansive prairie landscape, ever-changing skies, and vivid seasonal shifts offer a fresh palette and renewed sense of wonder. Her work remains deeply rooted in a celebration of colour, the natural world, and the quiet beauty found in everyday life.
